Mishka Project Celebrates International Migrants Day 2025 Through Refugee Women Trunk Show

In commemoration of International Migrants Day 2025, Mishka Project was honored to be invited by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to participate in the International Migrants Day Symposium 2025 – My Great Story: Cultures and Development. The symposium highlights the contributions and potential of migrants, particularly refugee women, in cultural and social development.

During the event, Mishka Project presented a special trunk show featuring five refugee women from different conflict-affected countries who are currently residing temporarily in Indonesia. They include Adian A.M Al-Fartthoosi and Aswar Khalid Saad from Iraq, Fathiya W.J Kheira from Palestine, and Asma Omar Mohamad and Amal Abdikadir Boor Ahmed from Somalia.

The participants showcased fashion pieces created through continuous training and mentorship programs. More than a fashion presentation, the trunk show symbolized empowerment, courage, and a platform of expression for refugee women to demonstrate their talents, identity, and potential through fashion.

The collaboration between IOM and Mishka Project has been established since 2023, driven by a shared commitment to promoting independence, skills development, and social inclusion for refugee communities in Indonesia through fashion and the creative economy sector.

As part of the empowerment program, participants received professional training, including:

Fashion training facilitated by New York of Fashion Global Indonesia, covering Fashion Drawing, Fashion Painting, and design development.
Modeling and catwalk training guided by professional choreographers from Mike Panambunan Model School to enhance confidence and professionalism on stage.
About Mishka Project
Mishka Project, powered by Makaila Haifa, is a social initiative focused on empowering women, particularly refugee women, through fashion as a medium for education and skills development.

Through this initiative, refugee women gain practical skills to support them when relocating or settling in destination countries. Beyond technical abilities, they also build friendships, strengthen self-confidence, and gain access to support systems during their life transition.

Mishka Project believes that fashion is more than a creative industry — it is a powerful medium for social change, a voice for hope, and a source of resilience for women affected by humanitarian crises.
