This initiative goes beyond technical training or fashion showcases. It stands as a symbol of empowerment, courage, and a meaningful platform for refugee women to express their talents, identity, and potential through fashion.
The collaboration between UNHCR and Mishka Project has been established since 2021, while the partnership with IOM began in 2023. These partnerships are grounded in a shared commitment to fostering independence, enhancing skills development, and promoting social inclusion for refugee communities in Indonesia through the fashion and creative economy sectors.
As part of the empowerment program, participants receive professional training, including:
Fashion Training facilitated by New York of Fashion Global Indonesia, covering Fashion Drawing, Fashion Painting, and design development.
Modeling and Catwalk Training guided by professional choreographers from Mike Panambunan Model School, aimed at enhancing confidence and professionalism when performing before the public.
About Mishka Project
Mishka Project, powered by Makaila Haifa, is a social initiative dedicated to empowering women, particularly refugee women, through fashion as a medium for education and skills development.
Through this program, refugee women not only gain practical skills to support them when relocating or settling in destination countries, but also build meaningful networks, strengthen their self-confidence, and gain access to essential support during their life transitions.
Mishka Project believes that fashion is more than a creative industry — it is a powerful vehicle for social change, a platform for hope, and a source of strength for women affected by humanitarian crises.
