Fostering Connections: Mishka Project Joins 'A Roshan Journey RISE' to Advocate for Refugee Women's Empowerment

In an effort to foster connections while supporting the empowerment of women and refugee communities, the Mishka Project was invited to an event titled “A Roshan Journey RISE.” Initiated by the Roshan Learning Center community, the event was successfully held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at the American Club Jakarta.

The event served as a vital platform for various stakeholders to share inspiration, strengthen networks, and demonstrate tangible solidarity regarding humanitarian issues—particularly those faced by refugees in Indonesia.

The primary objective of the “A Roshan Journey RISE” event is to foster closer ties with various refugee communities and to focus on women's empowerment programs.

Through this inclusive space, invited guests are encouraged to gain a closer look at the struggles, resilience, and immense potential of refugee communities.

Specially invited to the event, Mishka Project showcased extraordinary fashion-painted creations by refugee women at a dedicated booth. This participation underscores the project's tangible commitment—as an organization active in various social and humanitarian initiatives—to creating sustainable social impact for communities in need.

This aligns with the sentiments expressed by Hida, the founder of the Mishka Project, when introducing the initiative to the invited guests.

"I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to Ms. Daisy Wardani, Executive Director of the Roshan Learning Center, and her team for the invitation to this remarkable event. The Mishka Project is deeply honored to have the opportunity to showcase—at the provided booth—the finest fashion painting creations born from the creativity of refugee women.

At the Mishka Project, we believe that an opportunity can transform a person's life, even if it begins with a small step. Through training in fashion painting, modeling, and styling, we aim to provide refugees—particularly women—with a space to create, regain their self-confidence, and build a better future," said Hida.

The event featured University of Hawai’i alumni, including Muhammad Hasan Ansori, who currently serves as the Executive Director of The Habibie Center.

In addition to the participation of various local and international communities, the event was attended by representatives from UNHCR Indonesia: Adriani Wahjanto, Officer in Charge, and Emily Bojovic, Senior Protection Officer.

The active participation of UNHCR Indonesia further underscores the importance of cross-sector collaboration in addressing refugee issues, while simultaneously ensuring they have a safe space to continue to thrive.

At the same time, representatives among the invited guests exchanged ideas regarding education, training, and skills programs, as well as concrete steps that could be taken moving forward to foster self-reliance among women in refugee communities.

In addition to discussion and networking sessions, the event featured various activities, including dance, music, and traditional games performed by the refugees.

Finally, it is hoped that this event will raise public awareness regarding the importance of supporting the empowerment of refugees and women, and spark further similar humanitarian collaborations in the future. (Yopi Saputra)
